I’m Dr Jason Coates, a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years of experience supporting adults with their mental health and wellbeing. I’m trained in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychological concerns and take a collaborative, evidence-based approach to therapy.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Tasmania before moving to Brisbane to undertake a Master of Clinical Psychology and PhD at the University of Queensland. My PhD research focused on substance use and addiction, and I’ve published a number of research papers and book chapters in this area. In my early career I balanced positions in research and clinical practice for several years, though ultimately found client-facing work to be most rewarding. These days I enjoy a balance of work in private practice alongside a longstanding position as a Senior Clinical Psychologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
I was born and raised in Tasmania, where I developed an affinity with all things outdoors. As such, caring for my own mental-health involves plenty of time in nature, so I'll often be found running or looking for wildlife in the local forests.
